At this years Hazard EX conference Mr Jeffrey Pearson, HM Principal Specialist Inspector - Hazardous Industries Directorate, Health And Safety Executive explained how the UK Law for users of Ex Equipment in Hazardous Areas is summarised in terms of Suitability, Installation, Inspection, Maintenance and Records. He expressed increasing concerns of HSE Inspectors with deterioration of equipment and standards and of the need for enforcement penalties. He also outlined the need for a structured inspection and maintenance strategy in order to ensure that safety in hazardous areas is not compromised by poor asset management.
